On tonight's very special episode of 'Glee,' the students of McKinley High mourned the loss of their quarterback and friend Finn Hudson. The emotion-packed hour also served as a tribute to actor Cory Monteith, who for four seasons portrayed Finn on the Fox show. Monteith passed away earlier this year after consuming a lethal combination of heroin and alcohol. While the characters on the show paid tribute to the fictional Finn, it was evident through the tears and forlorn expressions, the actors were also remembering Monteith.
The writers did a great job of giving each actor - or at least those with a strong Finn/Monteith connection - an opportunity to pay their respects in both song and words. The monologues were gut-wrenching, to say the least. In between sobs, Twitter users posted touching one-liners from the show that resonated with even non-'Glee' fans.
Here is our list of nine quotes from tonight's episode that made us bawl like babies.
1. Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer)
"Everyone wants to talk about how he died, too, but who cares? One moment in his whole life...I care more about how he lived."
2. Mercedes Jones (Amber Riley)
"I remember Finn telling me that he sang this song ["I'll Stand By You"] to his baby's sonagram - well, he thought it was his baby. He was the first cool kid to be nice to any of us and he was our leader in here. We love you Finn."
3. Burt Hummel (Mike O'Malley)
"I should have given him more hugs. You know the last time I saw him, he was so bummed out about some test at school and I just, you know, told him to 'get back at it,' he was worth it. It was the perfect time for a hug, but for whatever reason I gave him a pat on the back. Just that. Now he's gone."
4. Carole aka Finn's Mom (Romy Rosemont)
"How do parents go on when they lose a child? You know, when I would see that stuff on the news, I would turn it off, because it was just too horrible to think, but I would always think, 'How do they wake up everyday? How do they breathe?' But you do wake up. And for just a second you forget and then oh, you remember. And it's like getting that call again and again every time. You don't get to stop waking up. You have to keep on being a parent even though you don't get to have a child anymore."
5. Santana Lopez (Naya Rivera)
"I have hated you ever since the day I met you [Sue Sylvester]. You are a horrible person who never had a nice word to say about Finn Hudson. So you don't you dare think he didn't hate you, too."
6. Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison)
"I feel more than I know how to express; I'm heartbroken. To be honest, I don't know how we're all supposed to move forward. But, in the meantime, I have to make sure that the people around me are taken care of."
7. Puck Puckerman (Mark Salling)
8. Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch)
"What chance do I have of not being an idiot and hurting people without him being around and reminding me who I really am?"
9. Rachel Berry (Lea Michele)
"Cut the crap, will ya? I don't care about that. I don't care about people. I care about him. He was such a good guy and I'll never get to tell him. There's not lesson here. There's not happy ending, there's just nothing. He's just gone."
"I talk to him a lot. I can still see his face and I can hear his voice so clearly. Do you think that I'll ever forget it, because I'm afraid that one day I will."
